An Awakened Garden was created to inspire others to realize that it is time for us all to awaken to nature’s callings to slow down, and re-connect with ourselves through nature and our natural environments.
This can be accomplished in many ways, one of them being by simply walking out of your own back door into your yard, onto your patio balcony, or out in your neighborhood and connecting with plants and nature.
For some of us this means creating soothing outdoor environments such as simple perennial gardens with points of interest in each season. To others it means having a vegetable or herb garden to supplement fresh, organic food for ourselves and our families. For another, a crazy riot of cutting flowers for fresh flowers all summer. For yet another, a few pots of anything alive and green on a deck or patio.
Some of us are lucky enough to have yards large enough to plot out our different outdoor rooms, such as space for children to play, adults to relax and vegetable and herb gardens along with perennial and annual flowers and plants. Some of us live in apartments or condos with a small patio that only allows for a few pots of something special to us such as herbs, flowers or a cherry tomato plant. For most of us, our yard falls somewhere in between. Whatever your needs and desires, Kathleen has experience in them all, from gardening on several acres to patio gardens. She loves to create mixed-used gardens mixing vegetables and flowering plants.

In this photo we see two large cherry tomato plants in pots surrounded by a mass of cutting flowers in a space where a large, diseased Bradford pear tree was taken down in early summer and my client desired a screen from their neighbor
until they could plant another tree in the fall.

While assessing your needs Kathleen always suggests ways to conserve water by proper plant placements, taking advantage of natural runoff and suggesting proper placement of rain barrels, if desired.
We all have different desires and constraints for what we would like our yards or “gardens” to be. Kathleen’s keen eye and knowledge of nature will help you find what works for you and your space.
